Winter Wonder

Winter brings intricate crystals tumbling quietly in a showery white veil toward the ground, speckling my hair.

A vivid, glistening tree stands like an imposing, beautiful green tower in the den that is situated in front of the picture window for neighbors to enjoy. The fresh minty scent of the ornate tree wafts through the air.

A cozy fire in the hearth, embraces me in its warmth and light.

Childhood memories encapsulate me like a caterpillar in its cocoon.

Bursting with excitement, I hold onto my sled and glide speedily down powdery hills. The whoosh of the crisp, tingly winter air brushes my face, and I feel a sense of complete freedom.

Sitting at the kitchen table, I sip a mug of hot, steamy chocolate, with tiny marshmallows floating on top, sometimes burning the roof of my mouth.

Outside, thin naked trees are lined up like matchsticks. Their bony branches hold empty nests, disheveled and lonely. The feathered fowls have flown south.

Jagged walls of icicles hang from the eaves, barring my view through the window, a reminder of the bitter cold tidings of the elongated winter.

Special Birthday Surprise

my book on the happy table 1

I just woke up and found a text from my husband, Troy. While in town for his and Christopher’s haircuts yesterday, he stopped by Sudden Fiction Books without my knowledge and took a picture of my book on the “Happy Books” table. What a lovely birthday gift. Thank you, love.

My birthday wish is that many people pick up a copy of Passage of Promise and that when they read it, they find it a feel-good, well-worth-it read.

On the Bookshelves

Once there was a twelve-year-old girl who used her index fingers to peck the keys of her dad’s electric typewriter to write her first book, A Stuffed House. Then in her mid teen years, she wrote a historical romance trilogy set during the US Civil War. She went on to write a novel in her early to mid twenties, took a long seventeen-year hiatus for marriage and family, and came back to writing in 2014. She wrote her debut novel, Passage of Promise, in 2015 and finished revising and editing it in 2019. It was published May 1, 2020.

Today, she stopped by the local bookstore in her town and saw her book on one of their bookshelves. This was a new experience for her. A joyful and proud experience. She’s thankful to Sudden Fiction Books for carrying her work.
