GENRES: The Ones You Dig, The Ones You Don’t

Let’s talk about fiction genres and the ones you dig and the ones you don’t.

Do you read more than one genre?

If so, which ones do you like?

Which ones don’t interest you?

For me, I like to read:

-Women’s Fiction

-Historical Fiction

-Thrillers

-Romance

-Romantic Suspense

-Suspense

-Mystery

-Humor

-Orthodox Christian & Some Other Christian Fiction

Ones that don’t interest me:

-Erotica

-Horror

-Fantasy

Ones I might read (but it’s rare):

-Science Fiction

  1. I grew up reading fantasy, but these days I’m most likely to read thrillers and suspense. I do a lot of branching out, though. If the story grabs my attention, I don’t really care what genre it is. I rarely pick up a romance, though. But once in a while I will, especially if it’s closer to being women’s fiction or romantic suspense.

And I’m always on the hunt for Orthodox Christian fiction, which I also write. Periodically I go to Amazon and type in “Orthodox Christian fiction” to see what comes up… I wish Amazon and other booksellers had a category for it, but I guess there’s not enough of it yet (“yet,” she repeats with hope 🙂 ).

    1. Thanks for sharing! I’m the same with romance — will read if suspense is connected to it – romantic suspense. I do the same thing on Amazon, except I type in “Orthodox Christian women’s fiction”, and I’ve seen a couple of my books come up on the pages listed. 😀 Yes, hoping there’s a larger section for Orthodox fiction in the future. 🙂

    1. Yes! I just tried searching for “Orthodox Christian women’s fiction,” and sure enough, Painted with Good Intentions was on the first page, and Passage of Promise was on a subsequent page! (I have read both of them, by the way.) I didn’t see any of my own books until I specified the Christian Literature & Fiction department, and then my book The Abandoned Church showed up. My results in that department also included two Orthodox novels I hadn’t come across before. They will be going into my cart…

      1. Awesome! It’s exciting seeing your own books in the list, isn’t it? Congrats! Oh, I didn’t know you’d read my books! THANK YOU! Would you please leave a short review/rating for them? TIA!
